• Repatha contains the active ingredient evolocumab, a monoclonal antibody that targets and inhibits the PCSK9 protein. By blocking PCSK9, Repatha increases the number of LDL receptors available on liver cells, allowing the body to remove more LDL ("bad") cholesterol from the blood and significantly reduce cholesterol levels.

  Repatha is indicated for adults and certain pediatric patients with primary hypercholesterolaemia, familial hypercholesterolaemia, mixed dyslipidaemia, and for adults at increased risk of cardiovascular events. It may be used alone or in combination with statins and other lipid-lowering therapies when additional LDL-C reduction is needed.

  The medication is administered as a subcutaneous injection using a prefilled syringe or autoinjector. The recommended dosage for most patients is either 140 mg every two weeks or 420 mg once monthly, with both dosing schedules providing comparable cholesterol-lowering effects.

  Clinical studies have shown that Repatha can reduce LDL cholesterol by approximately 60% and help lower the risk of major cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke when used as part of a comprehensive cholesterol management plan.

  Common side effects may include nasopharyngitis, upper respiratory tract infections, influenza, back pain, and injection-site reactions. Patients should use Repatha under the supervision of a healthcare professional and continue recommended diet and lifestyle measures.
