Xiidra (lifitegrast ophthalmic solution 5%) is an FDA-approved prescription medication for the treatment of both the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease. It works by blocking the interaction between LFA-1 (lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1) and ICAM-1 (intercellular adhesion molecule-1), reducing inflammation on the surface of the eye that contributes to dry eye. Xiidra is typically administered as one drop in each eye twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart. Common side effects include eye irritation, altered taste sensation, and temporary blurred vision after instillation.
